The fact that the confrontation with the Red Death is handled so well is a promising sign. With next week serving as The Flash Season 9's midseason finale, hopefully, the short break will allow the show to stage a solid return to conclude its run later this spring. Still, the episode leans into the kind of shared continuity that endeared the Arrowverse to millions of fans worldwide for the past decade, including the opportunity to see Javicia Leslie suit up as Batwoman and team up with the Flash again, which is worth the price of admission alone. The penchant for ham-fisted, melodramatic acting remains, though not as frequent as in the preceding episode. That isn't to say that "The Mask of the Red Death, Part 2" is an all-around improvement over its immediate predecessors, with several noticeable flaws still in the mix.
